Our Story

Two Generations. One Sound.Every musical journey has a beginning. Ours started with a father teaching his son to play guitar.James began playing drums at just four years old, beginning a lifelong journey through jazz, Latin jazz, soul, R&B, blues, big band, rock, indie, alternative, country, pop, and worship music. His experience includes school jazz ensembles, playing marching snare with the Baylor University Golden Wave Band, live performances, and studio recording work. He also plays acoustic guitar and bass.Beyond performing, James has been a percussion instructor since the age of 18, teaching award-winning drumlines and helping musicians develop their skills. His experience also extends into worship ministry, where he has trained youth and adult worship team members and mentored worship leaders, sharing both his musical knowledge and leadership experience. When Jackson was in the third grade, James began teaching him guitar. What started as lessons between a father and son eventually grew into two musicians sharing the stage.Jackson developed into a versatile multi-instrumentalist, performing on acoustic and electric guitar, bass, piano, and drums. He has established his own performance history through restaurant engagements, festivals, and live gigs throughout Central Texas. In November 2025, Jackson opened for The Uninvited at Hanover's Draught Haus in Pflugerville. He has also had the opportunity to perform at an open mic with Ben Wilson at Sloan & Parker in Austin. For the past five years, Jackson and James have also performed together on worship teams, developing a musical connection built on years of shared experience.Today, their musical journeys come together as JRW & The Old Man, a father-and-son acoustic duo featuring Jackson on guitar and vocals, with James accompanying him on percussion or rhythm acoustic guitar. From intimate restaurants and local festivals to private events, their performances bring together musical versatility, decades of experience, and a genuine connection that goes far beyond the stage.JRW & The Old Man.
